2. How will you, as a "competent communicator" use each of the four components of competency ( knowledge, sensitivity, skills and values) in your personal and professional life?
As an individual, the four components are related and work hand in hand. without the knowledge there is bound to be lack of sensitivity and when that is less there are no skills to back it up thus values are not identified.
*KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge is a key to success and to some other it is power.it is as available as the air we breath realization is the key note.at a personal and professional level, having researched and acquired the knowledge on any piece of information makes one a competent communicator.
*SENSITIVITY: the ability to engage, feel and the attachment to the facts behind a certain pecie of information.
keep in mind the different people we have in society, some people come from direct societies while other come from indirect societies so in situations when addressing a certain group of people sensitivity is required in order to avoid offensive acts or messages.
*SKILLS: the ability to do something very well.an expertise. with the right skills, communication to the right people is delivered well. e.g a sales manager, according to her skills, her feedback from the people will determine her communication skills.
*VALUES: The regard that something is held to deserve; the importance or preciousness of something.every one has values both personal and professional.regardless the race and different cultures.
3.Think of a person you consider to be a " competent communicator" and describe how he or she demonstrates the four components of competency (knowledge, sensitivity, skills and values).
The fist lady of the united states of america wife to the president Mr.Barack Obamba.
Michelle Obama is such a public communicator. she has an air of sincerity, genuity, and charisma. the very intelligent 1st lady of america does have the four components of the 'competent communicator.' very impressive -smart, strong, warm, professional, grounded.with good intentions.
The way she engages the audience and develops a mutual connection with them right from the start with stories of her family, her modest upbringing, hardships experienced and overcome by her parents and herself, and how she met her husband. It is these stories that add the most colour to her talk, and that I believe provide the greatest bond with the audience.
