1. Identify the five group development stages (forming, storming, norming, performing, adjourning) in the case.
Forming:brief introductions and appointing the leader.
Professor Sandra divides the class into groups of five. Christine's group of five, she is immediately elected as Team Coordinator at the first group meeting and getting to know briefly about each other with the other four members (Diane, Janet, Steve, and Mike) to work as a team.
storming: sharing and exchanging of ideas and voicing of different opinions.
In this case, five different characters working as a team;Christine is devoted and hard-working,Diane was quiet but very intelligent,Mike was the clown,Steve was the business-like individual and Janet was the reliable one.
norming: appointing the team members to there responsibilities in order to hit the main goal.
In the case,i don't think they worked or communicated as a team, for instance mike's constant excuses and absence, the group does not work effectively and also may fail to complete the task on time.
performing: getting the workload done.
all the group members managed to finish up and get there tasks done except for one of there group mates(mike) who seemed not to take things seriously and handed in some handwritten notes which automatically shows less devotion to the team.
adjourning: the finale stage where the work is finalized and evaluation takes place.
christine as the team coordinator, took everyone of her member's efforts in to consideration so the general evaluation is in her hands, even for mike who was never at the meetings,it determines higher or lower scores for her team
2. Identify and describe the causes of conflicts in the case.
- the major one i think was the fact that mike was not as devoted to doing the work at hand as the rest of the group members.
- they barely had daily meetings,in other words they rarely met as a whole group.
- also i don't think Christine as the team coordinator set a boundary.because she seemed to shelter mike's constant excuses.
3. Suggest the approach to leadership best suitable for the case.
I think the approach to leadership best suitable for the case is Team management;the team leader or coordinator exhibiting high concern for both task and interpersonal relationships by emphasizing goal accomplishment while supporting people.
