THE RED BEANBAG.
“The simple pleasure parlor”
Walking in to the warm filled café, the wonderful
stuff of The Red Beanbag who where casually dressed in addition to their red
aprons round their waists were warmly welcoming.
With
70’s and 80’s band music playing, one defiantly gets an immediate sense of
warmth and homely feel.
Brown wood color and black seem to be the
theme of the restaurant. a cemented floor, strings of light bulbs in different
sizes hanging from the ceiling, “sailor” glass water bottles filled
with water on each table and brown bean bags printed with inspirational words
like; freedom, love, play, passion and truth hanging right above the kitchen
wall.
An open
window kitchen, one can hear the kitchen cutlery sounds as the chefs prepare
different dishes. One could point out, if one desired to talk to the chefs
directly it was possible due to their direct position to the dinning.
An Australian inspired décor, this
contemporary texture of the café; polishes The Red Beanbag incredible
uniqueness.
The Red Beanbag is six months old and
co-owned by Mr.Akiong lee that was very welcoming and slowly inspected the
kitchen and customers, very casually dressed in a black t-shirt and shorts.
I for
one did not notice that he was the boss and his sister Ms.Ipeng lee with her
big smile warmly gracing everyone in the café, with her youthful casual chic
sense and services.
The two siblings who once lived in Australia
and came up with the idea of The Red Beanbag café.
The
two shared an apartment back in Australia and the name ‘Red Beanbag’ came from an
actual bean bag they had in their apartment and hence decided to name the spot
“red beanbag” in order to maintain a cool independent, homely and personalized environment,
Mr.Akiong lee and his sister incorporated the Australian decent quality of
food, décor and concept in to their café which is more of the modern day café.
One
of the first things that you will notice when you walk in to the red bean bag
is the restaurant's friendly, knowledgeable staff. With a detailed
understanding of every item on the menu, they are always willing to make
recommendations.
What
I found interesting most was there cardboard menu printed with the most humorous
catchy phrases to their mouth-watering dishes aside and drinks.
Drinks from there Red Mean Machine known to
be the soul of the café with their famous coffee variety imported from Western
Australia to the other drinks milky ice teas and yourgahts.
On the food menu where Phrases like; “it
aint heavy, it’s my brekkie” their breakfast that is served all day
from 10:00am-3:00pm. Hence any one at any time of the day can walk in and have
what is believed to be the most important meal of the day.
“Dough
and not your usual suspects” there main dishes that are Served
from 12:00pm-10:00pm and finally
there “there’s always room for.” there desserts.
The Red Beanbag food prices range from 10 RM-
40 RM and all meals are homemade especially there famously known pasta.
On the menu, I had the “chicken crossing” (19.90 RM) which is a homemade chicken
burger patty with fried egg, tomatoes and cheese, in Australia they are famously
known to be the Andrew’s burgers very heavy and feeling.
It is
obvious according to the menu, however much you have taken in, “there’s
always room for.” desserts. The day’s special was the home made cherry cheese cake (10 RM) that topped off the afternoon.
The
fact that it was my first time at The Red Beanbag, first impressions
last so defiantly from their café setting; ambiance to their food and service, The Red Beanbag made every bite a delight.
